International Year of Soils 2015 – speakers wanted

In support of the 2015 International Year of Soils, we are calling for expressions of interest for speakers who can provide talks or workshops that include this important topic.

The International Year of Soils 2015 aims to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of soil for food security and essential ecosystem functions.

The specific objectives of the International Year of Soils 2015 are to:

  • Raise full awareness among civil society and decision makers about the profound importance of soil for human life;
  • Educate the public about the crucial role soil plays in food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, essential ecosystem services, poverty alleviation and sustainable development;
  • Support effective policies and actions for the sustainable management and protection of soil resources;
  • Promote investment in sustainable soil management activities to develop and maintain healthy soils for different land users and population groups;
  • Strengthen initiatives in connection with the SDG process (Sustainable Development Goals) and Post-2015 agenda;
  • Advocate for rapid capacity enhancement for soil information collection and monitoring at all levels (global, regional and national).


International Year of Soils 2015

International Year of Soils 2015__Key messages are:

  1. Healthy soils are the basis for healthy food production.
  2. Soils are the foundation for vegetation which is cultivated or managed for feed, fibre, fuel and medicinal products.
  3. Soils support our planet’s biodiversity and they host a quarter of the total.
  4. Soils help to combat and adapt to climate change by playing a key role in the carbon cycle.
  5. Soils store and filter water, improving our  resilience to floods and droughts.
  6. Soil is a non-renewable resource; its preservation is essential for food security and our sustainable future.


Please make contact if you would like to be considered ( Preferential selection to present or hold a workshop will be given to Exhibitors so members of the public have the opportunity to interact with you outside of your presentation. Other speakers will be considered.
